New pneumococcal (pneumonia) vaccine

A new, single-dose vaccine called Capvaxive is now available to help protect against serious pneumococcal diseases, such as pneumonia. It provides broader protection and officially replaces the previous Prevenar 13 and Pneumovax 23 vaccines for adults.

Who is eligible for a FREE Capvaxive vaccine?

✅ All adults aged 65 years and over

✅ First Nations adults aged 25 years and over

✅ Adults aged 18 years and over with specific at-risk medical conditions

If you have had older pneumococcal vaccines, you are recommended to receive Capvaxive as long as it has been at least 12 months since your last dose.

💡 For people aged 65 and older:

With this new update, you should now have two vaccines - Capvaxive (pneumococcal) AND Shingrix (shingles).
